How can you as an artist make an impact? Change the world? For the better!
We are excited to announce the open call for ASSITEJ Norway’s TYAOslo Residency for performing artists working with Theatre for Young Audiences 2024!
The residency will give an opportunity for performing artists working with TYA to participate in a week-long residency exploring the theme of humanitarian work by artists for young audiences.
ASSITEJ Norway welcomes you to Oslo, Norway from September 30th to October 5th where we will explore humanitarian performances on an individual, collective and societal level. We wish to explore this topic in a personal and artistic sense with the aim to enable artists to discover how they can use their artistic skills in humanitarian aid. During the residency you will partake in workshops providing you with a toolkit and working methods for developing performance within humanitarian aid for children. ASSITEJ Norway also hopes to foster new collaborations across borders and exchange of best practices through this international residency.
The topic of humanitarian aid by artists for young audiences will be highlighting the precarious situation of many children in the world today. How can you as an artist make an unsafe child feel happy and carefree – at least for a moment? How can you transform challenged areas into magical places? What are the responsibilities of performing artists creating artistic work for children in difficult positions? How can you face the challenges of this kind of work yourself? What do you have in your toolbox already that can be activated in this kind of artistic work? These are just some of the topics we will be exploring as part of the residency.
All artists in the field of TYA are welcome to apply, regardless of citizenship, but due to budget constraints, we are limited to offer performing artists based in Europe only to apply for this residency.
ASSITEJ Norway will cover travel, accommodation, meals (breakfast included with accomodation, lunch and dinner equivalent of 600 NOK per person per day), and an artist’s fee of 12 000 NOK for the week. We ask that all applicants ensure they meet the visa-requirements for participating in a residency in Norway.
ASSITEJ International is the world’s largest network for performing arts for young audiences. Above all, ASSITEJ helps future generations find their place and voice in society. To this end, ASSITEJ endorses Article 31 and 13 of the 1989 United Nations’ Convention of the Rights of the Child which recognizes the essential right of all children and young people to enrichment through the arts and their own cultural traditions. ASSITEJ’ focus is especially on performing arts for young audiences (TYA).
The language of the residency will be in English.
Application deadline: May 5th 2024.
